Oliver Postgate RIP - Creator of Bagpuss, Clangers, Ivor The Engine and Noggin The Nog

Oliver Postgate, creator of so many iconic childrens television programmes like Bagpuss, Clangers, Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog amongst others died today at the age of 83.

His work graced both the BBC and ITV from the 1950s through to the present day and worked in collaboration with puppeteer Peter Firmin.

Bagpuss was earlier this year voted the 'Best TV Animal of All Time'.

His brilliant story telling through the use of so many diiferent types of animation was the forerunner to the likes of Nick Park's Wallace & Gromit and other leading animators.

His shows never lose their appeal and will be sorely missed. They don't make childrens television programmes like this anymore, and that is a great loss.
